Ill get up some better pics in a few weeks when I get back to working on the truck. But the crossmember is absolutely necessary, the oil pan sits about 2" below the top of the OEM crossmember. Hence the drop crossmember thats part of my engine mount set. The engine will sit in place with the oem crossmember, but there isnt room for the clutch slave to actuate.
I would have rather just done a custom oil pan and lowered the engine even more(its still a tight fit in the trans tunnel), but it was cost prohibitive. Ill be prototyping a set of mounts for an REW in the truck, and I think it will fit considerably better. The oil pan is already not as deep as the fc one, and the rear engine mounts will open up some more ideal mounting options.

cool cool, yea i made my tranny tunnel removeable so i could access my turbo and starter easy i mounted my motor pretty much in the exact same spot you did i post some pics when i get a chance..my problem was my 5 inches of bodydrop..i had to notch the firewall about 2 inches....i looked at your kit before i did mine but as we have bene discussing on my home site mazdabscene.com that crosmember is usless for most of us cuz we are running air ride and we would drag right through that thing
