I'm replying to this thread instead of starting a new one cause this one seems to fit my situation the most...

I have an '86 GXL, and I want to be able to get it to run close to 13 flat 1/4's. I think buying a new RX-7 would be out of the question cause i've already have the car for a while now (17years)

The only thing i can think of that would give me good results would be a 13b REW swap, but im getting mix responses as to how cost effective it wll be...

I've looked around, and decent parts for a n/a rx7 are hard to find. i was thinking after the swap i might be able to use turbo kits designed for fd's, but im not sure if it works that way.

What would be the best way to reach my goal, without reducing the car's life too much, and leaving room to build on so i can make it go faster without replacing all/most of the earlier mods when i do get some money? Will swapping in a 13b REW allow me to use FD turbo kits?

You had that car for 17 years? Like, you bought it when you were 2?

Jim did the 13B REW swap right here if you need info on it...

My swap cost more than if I would have bought an FD and modded it for 320 RWHP. Then only advantage I have is my 320RWHP is rock solid and my engine will last for a really long time. Plus it is really unique.

Honestly 13B-RE is the way to go ($2500). Throw on a wolf 3-D ECU ($1500) and some odds and ends to pull it all together (another $1500) and you'll have a screaming car.

why does everyone instantly think the 13brew is the only powerful rotary motor?

you can get the SAME results from a 13bt (T2 motor). not only that but it's easier and cheaper since its a VERY popular swap.

and if its cause you want some FD single turbo kit, well HELLO the 13bt (t2 motor) is already single turbo and has the same kits out for it such as the 35/40 and T78 kits.

sorry if i seem angry but it just annoys me when people come here and instantly think only the 13brew can produce any power, bah to that i say.

To answer the original question, I would say wait until a complete T2 comes up.

Sounds good to do an engine swap, but its a pain in the *** with limited funds. Since your a newbie to rotaries as well, I would suggest owning one for a while to get used to it and get a knowlegde base before attempting anything like an engine swap.

People say that about the REW because the 13BT engine's crack rear plates when they make power(a lot of them here in Japan from what I've seen).

Easiest swap to be "unique" is the 13B - RE. You'd have to get some fun stuff done to the turbo side of the engine, but you'd have one hell of a screamer.
