Thumbs up

Well, some of you may have read my post on the 2nd gen form, but for those of you who have'nt, I'm thinking about getting a RX-7, I've found (mabie) a 2nd gen GLX (still not shure what year though), but it has NO engine and it has the 5speed. So I was wondering if either a Twin Turbo 13b or a Reness engine would "bolt in"? Or where can I get "front Clips" for an RX-7? I'm shure you all know what I mean by a front clip . I've always had something special for Rotterys

Thx in Advance!!!

a 13brew (aka what you call a 13btt) is far from just bolting in you need to make a whole new subframe.

same probably goes for the renesis since all motors after i think the 13bre, or maybe the 13bt had their motor mount locations moved to a different part of the housings.

You wouldn't have to make a new sub frame, but you would have to move the motor forward/back, and make a new tranny mount (I think that would be much easier), but I guess you could also make a new sub frame, although it seems like more work.

Also I don't think your going to find a renisis motor for a LONG time. And seeing as how your buying a 2nd gen, it probably means your cheap, or don't have the money for a newer one. So I seriously dought you will be able to afford a motor swap.

But yes, the motor's will fit with fabrication and time.

It's not that I'm cheap, no way, not with my cars! It is true that I don't have alot of money, and I'd buy a FD IF I had the money, but there's no way in hell I can, lol. But not just money, I also like the look of the "old school" (89-9X) RX-7's...dunno why...just something about the look, lol. I'm going to get a RX-8 when I graduate High School probly, either that or a FD, dunno. I called it the 13tt because I know it's a 13 series motor, but I did'nt know the rest, and tt usiually means "twin turbo". So it has alot to do with that I just like the look of the 2nd gens...but a little that I can't afford a 3rd gen. So how hard would it be to put a TII motor in a put twin turbos on that? lol. I want twins, lol! I'll probly just end up putting a regular TII in.

Does anyone know where I could get a "front clip"?

Yay, yay, all the 2nd gen owners denie being cheap Even me

Nah, I'm sure you would spend the money if you had it (not walways a good thing), because if you do, you'll be like me, and never have alot of money in your pocket for more than 2 days. That always happens to me, I've dumped quit a bit of money into my 7MGTE swap, and I can't show for 1/2 of it. I'm VERY bewildered on were it went for the most part. But I guess that is the way it goes with money pit engine swaps.

why would you convert a single turbo 13bt to a twin turbo? i dont see the real benefit unless going to some sick *** twin setup like IGY has in his FD.

just get a street ported 13bt (T2 motor) and upgrade it and youll get tons of power. THe usual has to be done, cooling system, exhaust, intake, fuel mods, computer, then bigger turbo.

it's only cheap if you want to go fast for a short time, if you want to go fast and have it last you gotta spend the bucks.

so exactly how much power could be gotten out of a 13b TII engine? What kind of acceleration and 1/4 times could I expect? And if I put a 13b TII in, would I get the turbo exhaust (the base car is a GXL)?

that again depeds on your buget and what you want it for. Joe, from Smoking Joe Racing has an 87 T2 that does 8.7 in the quarter, but it is only used for drag racing.

speed costs money, how fast do you want to go. everything is a sacrafice. if you want a daily driver, it will cost you power. if you want all out speed, you won't be able to drive it on the street. identify exactly what you want, plan it out, then build towards it.

Ok, if I got it here is the goal: A good and powerful daily driver and wekend autocrosser/road course racer, but it's got to have good 0-60 (accelearating out of the twisties) and "respectible" 1/4 times. That said, the budget is not great, and I'm not the biggest on 1/4, just want enough to have atleast SOME respect from all the domestic guys arround here that are SO proud that their 5.0 'stangs can run 14.5 on the 1/4, lol. And too keep my dad off my back about it too . The budget is not huge, that's why I'm (mabie) getting one without an engine, lol. But I'd deffently go for more then the "basics" (ie exhaust, intake, and a little more). After I got the basic engine in, the "external" upgrades could begin, such as bigger IC, turbo stuff, etc. That's my plan, mabie that'll help some RX7Trix.com's stage 2 turbo engine looks pretty good...what kind of power would I be getting out of that? How about a Stage 1 turbo? And where could I get the turbo stuff?

Buy a TII and save yourself the aggrevation and expense of swapping an engine. Swaps nickel and dime you to death.

A decent TII can be found for $3000 to $7500. I have seen the rare occasion where a TII can be bought for $1500 from an idiot that has no clue what they are selling.

I did the following to my TII and ran a 13.08 with it.

- 720 Secondaries $150

- S-AFC - $250

- Profec B - $400

- Series 5 Turbo and Manifold - $300

- Rebuilt Turbo by Majestic Turbo converted to hybrid T-04E - $600

- Full exhaust - $545 ( RB Downpipe - $90 / RB Presilancer $155 / Corksport cat back $300)

- Intake - $50

Total cost of Mods - $2300

Cost of Car - $3000 - $7000

13 second car for $5300 to $9300

RWHP @ 9PSI 242.

1/4 mile at 10 PSI - 13.08

RWHP @ 7PSI 225 - daily driving
