Hey everyone. I am looking at buying a used 93 RX-7. The owner has made some aftermarket mods to it including a bigger intercooler, intake, rebuilt turbos, boost controller, grounding kit, catless downpipe, high flow center cat (although the stock center cat is on the car as of now), and a catback exhaust. However, the car needs engine management of some sort. Does anyone have advice as to whether a fuel controller like the S-AFCII would be good or if a full stand alone ECU like the Power FC and Commander would be better/safer? Also, are there any recommended places to go to in the Virginia/DC/Maryland area to have tuning done?

You're better off with a full standalone, the SAFCII just kind of tricks the stock componentry into dumping in more fuel.

You have way more control and accuracy (in my experience) with a real standalone.

BTW, if this guy tries to haggle with you that the "grounding kit" was real expensive, tell him he got gyped.. Don't pay extra for the car just because a "ground kit" is on a list of mods. Ground kits don't make horsepower. Just FYI.

Thanks for the info. With the Power FC I'd definately need to find a good tuner in the area.

One more thing. Would using a S-AFCII in favor of the Power FC compromise the safety of the engine?

In my opinion, quite possibly.

More control over what's happening is more control, which mean less chance of running into a serious issue.. The SAFCII isn't setup like the Power FC, the Power FC has alot more control.
