Xr-1 Octane Booster, Oil Additive
#1
Has anyone tried these out. Always see that at my local auto shops but don't know if it's worth switching from Prestone to these guys. It is more expensive so that's why I was wondering if it's any good or not. Plus I gotta change out all my fluids again.

I certainly haven't. I only used an octane booster once in an old tank of gas in the FD to help stabilize and even out the fuel quality.
Around here, everyone swears that it's bad to use octane boosters. Especially the high HP guys.

Just to confirm what nopistons said...
What I've come to understand is that when a given brand of octane booster claims to raise the octane level 1 or 2 points, what it really means is that it raised it from say, 90 octane, to 90.2 octane.
So you can probably do the math on how many bottles you'd have to buy to see any meaningful rise in octane.
As for oil additives, I'm never really sure what's in that stuff. All those "new age", "like magic", "unbelievable", "space age tech", "you aren't gonna believe it" pitches that they offered on those TV info-mercials just make me nervous.
I've also heard that some may have ingredients that arent' real "seal friendly" for rotaries. Just my .02.

Signal:
So true on the selling line part. I'd figure mose of the oil additive crap isn't seal friendly since it is usually always some kind of synthetic fluid. So that's why I posted to see if anyone had any info on it. Whenever I hear the word synthetic and rotary together I cower in fear. Hehe.
Sinful7 & nopistons94:
Yeah there's always been the debate about whether octane booster/fuel system cleaner really works. From my experience the Prestone octane/fuel system cleaner that comes in the orange bottle has never done me wrong and certainly proves to make a difference. Such as when my girlfriend decided to buy a bottler for her SER she kept freaking out cause the car was way more responsive and had more kick when she steeped on the gas. As far as on the 7 I did a test to see if I could tell the difference between running with no booster and running with it and well without the car didn't respond/perform as well as it usually did.
Conclusion:
I guess this is all just more so personal opinion then anything else cause some argue that they can tell no difference while for others it makes all the difference in the world. Also I have read some articles that went in depth about octane boosters and from their testing results it showed that the stuff really did work. Brand really does make a difference as well as the Prestone stuff performs the best more so then the others.
Funny:
I like how I took this topic from being about 2 specific branded products to all out products of the like. Hehe.

what your girlfriend experience was the mental aspect of the octane booster. More than likely the kick she felt was just the thinking the octane booster is really working , everyone seems to think they have more hp on the butt dyno when they add stupid small stuff to the car, its just the way it is.
