Mobil 1 non-synthectic. I change it about every 2000 miles.

is it better to run a thicker weight of oil on rotories. how about on a new motor with 3K miles? im in the market for a FD and found a nice one being sold by a respectable rx7 shop the engine has 3K...i used to own a 87 Turbo II in 01 so im KINDA familiar with rotories

I run Mobil1 Synthetic 10W-30. Synthetic or not, it's best to run an oil with a smaller operating range. If I only operated the RX7 on warm days, I'd be running a standard SAE30 synthetic. The operating range is much smaller, but the oil composition is not compromised by temperature requirements. At 3k on the motor, assuming it was properly broken in, you're safe to switch to synthetic. Some of the brands to stay away from are Penzoil, Store brands, bottom shelf stuff... With oil, you tend to get what you pay for.
