Chris and Igy had something like this made for their FD's awhile ago. I finally got the welding done. Here's what mine looks like.

Many FD owners say that you need the AST because the stock filler neck does not have enough volume to capture and purge air. So instead of making the filler neck larger, they (they being Mazda engineers) just added an AST.

So why not just make the filler neck bigger? Well I did! Basically took a stock filler neck and cut off the flange that attaches to the water pump housing and welded it to an AST that had a 42mm pipe welded into the side of it. Now the filler neck has as much volume as the AST AND it gets rid of the AST all together.

I have one of those. My turbo won't fit with the stock neck, so that needed to be made.
