Vacuum Hose Question...

I just took off the upper intake manifold to get to the rats nest and a ton of the hoses are either cracked or hard as rock. While taking one vaccum hose off it was connected this green bulb type thing. Can anyone tell me what that is because well the end of it broke off with the hose...yawp whoever did the hose job last if it's ever been done did a horrid job...thinking it's time to get a kit from Hose Tech and redo it all. Whats the approx. hours it takes most people to do it the first time? Like a full days work or many days?

I don't have a vacuum hose chart with me here at work but it sounds like you broke a check valve. Was it 1/2 green and 1/2 white??? It's been so long since I had anything under there...sorry.
I do remember spending about 3 days total from hood up to hood down, probably 12-14 hours total but I was going slow and stopped for many many beers...

Here's an image of the green thing I was talking about if it will help...
and I did get the kit from Hose Techniques. Not to bad of a price I guess at least for what's in the kit. Just need to know what those green things are so I can order them from Mazda...on some diagrams they seem to be the check valves but just wanna verify.

My gats! I called up my local dealer and for the small diameter one it's $45 bucks. I love how they can overprice car parts. 
Not sure if that one in the picture is the small or large diameter one now. Crap work time.

suggestion.. use an exacto blade to split the hose and peel....
pullin on the hose will most likely cause unnecessary stress on an old nipple..
the price you quoted is retail.. you should be able to get em at a discounted rate...
