Hi guys im new to this website thought i should look into it abit more before i buy an rx7. I was just wondering if you could rip the turbo's out of any of the models from '92 - '02? Might sound like a stupid question cause i obviously think you can but i've been told you cant. If you can would the rotor seals stuff up as quick as they normally would? If anyone can fill me on the ups and downs of it thanks

beacuse the new laws in australia - victoria, you cant drive turbo, v8's or high powered V6's.. so i was thinking of NA tuning the engine or finding some rotor engine that is NA?

Yes, you can make a 13B-REW NA. You basically just block off (or loop) the oil and coolant connections for the turbos, remove the intercooler and run the intake right to a air filter, and use a different exhaust manifold. Here in the US, there is a racing organization called SCCA. They have a division where there are quite a few tube-framed 3rd Gen RX-7's which are running NA, but they are generally peripheral ported engines. However, since they are race cars (and tube-framed at that), they are much lighter than a street car. Add in the peripheral ported engine and it makes a very good power to weight ratio. Without any real engine work on the 13B-REW, a street version of the RX7 and an NA 13B-REW will make a horrible power to weight ratio.

Don't they "grandfather" older cars there? Removing the turbos might cause the car to pollute more. I can see them banning new cars with performance

options. Man, it sounds like where you live isn't much fun. Your politicians need to be voted out of office!

Oops, forgot to mention you'll need a standalone ECU to tune the mapping.

If I recall correctly, the laws in your area are based on age and the power to weight ratio of the cars (something about eventually getting an "Unrestricted/Unlimited/Open License"). If that's correct, wait until you are able to drive a car of that power. There is no sense in bastardizing the car just to fit it under the law so you can have "the look". The law is there for a reason.

Wait until you have the proper license, then look to get the car.
