OKAY, for the first time in my life, I have an FD within my grasp.. $5500... My buddy at the bodyshop has a friend who bought the car with a bad engine.. he hired a mechanic to rebuild it, the mechanic tore the engine apart and then quit on him, so he has everything there and the car just needs a rebuild.. I have not actually seen the engine parts to see the extent of the damage, the actuall car is supposed to be in good shape.. I would have to postpone fixing the Repu to get the FD..

So I am doing the numbers to see if I can manage it.. How much $ would I be looking at for a rebuild if the engine is in a worst case scenario, where the housings are screwed and rotors are bad? and supposing the turbos are okay..

Is the engine still in pieces? I suggest you get a reman instead. The one that's in pieces might be missing stuff, etc.

$5500 is a damn good deal for an FD w/ no engine if everything else is in good shape.

I say get a reman from Malloy. ~$2000

Rebuild the reman if you want. I think shops charge like ~$1500 to do rebuilds. Not sure. But it's around there.

I suggest rebuilding the turbos too if they are the original ones. Well depends on the mileage.

How many miles on the chassis?

I'd buy it if everything except the motor is in good shape.

Well, I still have to see the car.. I will have half the cash in a couple of weeks.. then I will talk business.. but I want to make sure it is a good option for me..

The engine is still in pieces and thats why the owner just gave up.. I rebuilt my engine so I would bw able to know if parts are missing..

What if the car has a bunch of miles in the chassis, is it still a good buy..

malloy remans arent cheap on the west coast, shipping is the killer. go and look at the car, if its really nice cosmatically then go for it, if it needs paint or the interior is so/so skip it

Yeah I figured it was a pointless question after I pushed the button..

Vosko's Curse is the main reason I would hold out on getting the FD...
