Well I fired up the RX7 last night, and let it run for a little while. the car will not idle after it warms up. I've been doing all i can to correct the issue but its still not working. The only way I can keep the car running is if i turn the idle up to lik 1100-1200, otherwise it seems as if the car is getting too rich and killing itself. I have seen a few posts around here that are relating the engine runnign way to rich at idle and throwing the knock sensor code. I am currently getting code 5 (knock sensor) and I cannot fix that issue. I did the continuity test between the harness and ground and everything works. The car was not throwing a code before i swapped in the Atkins block.

I did notice when it is idling at 1100 or so, there is alot of black smoke coming from the tail pipe, this is also whats leading me to believe its running really rich. From what I've read on here maybe the air pump is maulfunctioning? The connector broke on the air pump so I had to take the two wires, and manually connect them to the air pump. Its possible these wires are switched, but I wasnt geting an engine code or anything, so I havent played much more with this idea yet.

Moving onto getting hot. The car gets hot in spurts. I have "burped" the system a few times between startup and cooldown. I'm always adding more so my gues is its not fully burped yet, however the car is getting HOT driving around. It will get within an 1/8" of an inch of the upper "operating temperature area" but it never goes between teh upper area and the red mark. Sitting in traffic the temp wants to go up quite a bit, but driving it teh temp goes down a bit. I've been having to limp it around with the heater on full blast to pull some heat off the engine. Just keep burping it or what?

Lastly, this is an automatic car, and it wouldnt go into 4th gear for some reason. I suppose i'll have to dig through the service manual for that, but anyone have any suggestions?

Are there any indications when it goes into limp mode?

IF* it does that, would it trigger the DET sensor engine light?

Trying to remember, but the map sensor is on the rear of the TB correct?

Does it say "boost sensor" or something to that extent?

Yep! It's a little black box with a single hose going to the bottom of it. Says 'Boost Sensor' on it, unless the sticker has fallen off.

That sensor/hose were both plugged in. Not realy sure where I set with the car right now. The owner took the car against my word this weekend and drove it hot for a good 1/2 hour. I have no freaking idea why and now he's bitching at me because it died on him out in the country, leaked some oil, and it smoked some white when he started it up last. I'm getting it back into the garage today, but probably wont be able to look at it for a few days, as I just moved itno a new apt.
