Question

I've just bought an RX-7 from eBay. I've never driven it. Stupid? Possibly, but I've wanted an RX-7 for years, and now I have one on its way.

The car I bought was street ported by KDR and had some Peter Ferral mods applied to it. I've read some BAD stuff about KDR on this forum and am pretty worried.

Is KD Rotary a bad tuning shop? Should I expect my car to be in bad shape in a few months? Help?!

I wanted to buy wheels and suspension for my car, but should I start by having the motor rebuilt by another shop instead?

Thanks for your help guys!

it depends you can get lucky and it may be fine. i would deal with the issues as they come along. don't bother tearing down a running car

I've talked to a few people who had some bad experiences with them. They said that Dave at KDR is a good mechanic but has room for improvement in his tuning.

Wow! You guys sure reply fast! I am a Miata owner also (love my Mazdas) and the guys at that forum are great too. It's nice to see a community of enthusiasts who help each other - much different than the Honda Civic Si club I used to be in.

What kinds of problems were people having with KDR? The guy that sold me my RX7 told me that it runs rich, but is fine. A little too much fuel isn't too bad for the rotaries, right?

more fuel is much better than less fuel when it comes to rotories... as long as it doesn't detonate you should be fine

I don't know how long Dave has been at KDR, but all the work done at KDR was done in 2001.

Mods that I know about:

2mm Apex seals

"street porting"

silicone vaccuum lines

AST removal

APEXi computer

ACT 9.5 lb flywheel and clutch

1300 cc injectors

G-Ready underdrive pulleys

Peter Ferrel Intercooler (spelling?)

Peter Ferrel Cold Air Intake

Raptor Racing 3" exhaust + highflow cat

NGK racing plugs

Toyota Supra Fuel Pump

I paid a pretty penny for this car because it sounded like a deal. It's hard to get an RX-7 in Honolulu so I jumped at the chance when I saw a built RX-7 that was tuned by a "reputable tuner."

Actually, right now, I just hope the thing makes it to me in one piece off of the ship!

I would check for tuners local to you. Ask them to check the car out for you, and re tune if nessassary.

Dave is the owner. For a stock care or mild mods he is great.
