I was just wondering if anyone who has installed an aftermarket ground wire system has noticed any differences?? Better idleing, throttle response, turbo hiccups gone? There are many kits on the market ranging from HKS, Pettit Racing, and even Veilside, and FEED. It seems that this mod kind of chooses at random so to speak of who it really actually helps. I've heard that it has completely changed every aspect of some peoples rotary performance, and others notice nothing but a credit card bill. I'm going to purchase a kit sooner or later, but I would like to know if anyone has tried any of the above named kits, and what they have thought of them. Also, if you relocate your battery to the passenger side bin behind the seat do you just have to make your own ground from the battery to the frame, or do most kits take care of that problem? When I installed my Pettit Racing AST, they sent me a small ground wire kit which after I installed showed no noticeable improvement. I'm not complaining, and I will not remove it, I'm thinking maybe this is the kind of mod that helps you without you ever noticing... I have no idea, I will just have to see how the rotary gurus respond!!

 

I have 2 "new" grounds on my engine. Both are just plain old negative battery cables from Autozone with a round hole connector on each end. $3.00 each!! 1 goes from the UIM to the firewall(replaces the small stock one), and another from the block to the chassis. I never have any problems. Is it the extra grounds? I can't prove that, but I can say, save your money and just buy some nice thick cables like I did!

 

I have seen an artical in sport compact car about them and they said the got anothe 1.5 hp form doing it. The piston engines that I haveseem them on have got great results. I plan to get one evetually too. I think that a lot are over priced thought. You can get the off ebay for like 20 dollars. I guess the more you pay for them is the better the conductor and the less resistance (OHM's). I work with electricity every day and I would say that they are a good Idea, It is allways good to have a stable ground. I guess you would get a better spark and a more stable idle. The dyno runs I have seen in comparison with and with out them is impressive. The dyno run with the grounds was much better than the one without and the power curve was much much more smooth.

 

i had a post about some odd idle and power issuues about 3 weeks ago. well it turned out that the stock ground strap on the firewall had an open in it. only if it was bent just right though. i put some black batt cable on it like vr6 and no probs. sometimes the manufacturer will put a air filter on a car and show that it amde 25hp what they dont say is that the base tested air filter was so dirty that it was flowing almost no air. 1.5 hp makes a bit of difference on your lawn mower not so much on the car

 

any 2 hp + or - on a dyno really isnt a big deal and is probably just because the engine was a bit cooler on the next run.

 

Either way, I'd do it. At least look at your grounds from time to time and make sure they are in good condition.

Anyway I did my own set-up too, one from the firewall to the UIM and the same spot to the Alternator bolt. When I hooked it up it was ZAPPPPPPP crackle and pop, with nothing wrong... Then I lost the 3000rpm studder i got sometimes...



If you dont have any problems I can quote a company that we sell their products. "Its pretty much useless unless you have some kind of grounding issues or your car is really old" I dont want to say who said that, but it seemed to be pretty straight up info.

 

our cars here in the US are pretty old.... the youngest rx7's around here is almost 9 years old
