Common problem.. with age... most people mis-shift from 2nd to 3rd.. and accidently hit 5th.

You can fix this by rebuilding the transmission, try redline fluid, might make it go away, or you can learn to align the synchros manually.

You can also later put a short shifter, or a torque brace to fix it. You should also have your motor mounts checked out.. sometimes those will be bad and create problems.

very common on 3rd gen rx7s you can get it replaced locally or you can do it your self. i fixed mine myself for a about $100 in parts and extra tools i needed.

just take it slow when you shift into 5th and try to match your revs

it will prolong the time needed for you to get it fixed

and an engine torque brace would be good too

Call Ray at Malloy Mazda for prices...For both the spindle (which you need to change as well) and the improved OEM 5th gear synchro, it was just under $60!!! Not a bad price at all. His number is: 888-533-3400. He owns an FD and is well known throughout the forums. GL!!!
