Engine Problem- Any Ideas?
#1
I posted this question to TRI7 and got 2 responses. I hope to fair better here! ( Though they were helpful)
Well it is an on-going saga with her! I started her up and heard
a little noise coming from the front- popped the hood and saw the noise
was coming from the pump area by the fan belts- almost like a rubbing noise. I could not
see anything to be concerned about and I let the car idle to warm up.
The noise dissapeared so I thought it was because of a cold
night sitting.
I am driving on the GSP and suddenly I hear a squeal so I slow
down and I see the battery lite flash. I coast the car to a parking lot and
begin to see smoke from the hood- (at this point the curses begin to
flow)
I pop the hood and I smell something like burning rubber. The
pump on the left front side facing the car is splattered with a tar like substance- maybe a melted hose? I think this is what was causing the smoke- something melted and splattered on the belts in front and maybe caused them to stick?
Anyone have any ideas what might have happened and or solutions?
I am going to bring it to a mechanic in Patterson but would like to have some ideas prior to going.
Thanks.

What belt? I assumed by the battery light flashing it is the water pump seized or alt. seized. Check them to see if they spin on there own. Also the air pmp if you still have it.
