hey i just got inspected and failed emissions for hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide,

Mine: HC: 2.97 CO: 29.57

Legal: HC: 0.80 CO: 15.00

i passed nOX whatever that is but the guy said i was running really rich (which i am). Is it possible that i tune the PFC enough to run a legal a/f or will legal mean im running really lean. right now im working with only a stock main cat and cat back, the airpump failed on me a few months back, so thats gone, and i swaped the precat for a downpipe right after buying the car. im sure people have delt with this same problem, any suggestions as to what i do? im thinking about putting the stock ecu back in, cause in theory shouldnt i be running lean with that, i wont rin like that for a while just for the test. who knows but im very open to feedback.

Mine failed BONE stock. Both cats... NO mods. I suggest new plugs, and a few gallons of denatured alcohol in the tank... You should be able to de-tune the fuel a bit. And make sure the rednecks on the dyno keep the damn boost down!!!

acheck the acv, its common if the vacuum hoses have been done to kink those. also make sure your airpump is getting turned on

i told them go easy on the throttle cause its turbocharged and the guy gave me an attitude. he was like" you have to do certain speeds so we have to get on it, if u have a problem dont evfen give me the car" whatever screw him

wait quick question, if i was to disconnect the intercooler piping so the car got nikch boost. would the car run rich or would the pfc compensate for no poost and lower the amount of fuel injected?

Anything with downpipe won't pass. i had a problem with the smog thing, and i learned my lesson...i went to get a check, car didn't pass, so my car got refereed...so I had to pull everything out...still didn't pass. I had to pay all these gross polluter fees, they didn't let me register my car, so I had to register it as non-op meaning I couldn't drive my car yada yada yada....

It's a great big headache I think all RX-7 owners face. I say don't even try to get smog check, and just pay someone $100-200 to make it "pass".

I would imagine that the car would run rich because the PFC doesn't recognize changes unless you re-tune it.

Tell him to lick some sweaty *****. Smog has nothing to do with speed (notice how the car never leaves the smog shop), and boost shouldnt even enter the equation because emission readings are taken at idle and somewhere around 2500 rpm. BTW tell the redneck to go **** himself and then beat his *** if he used unnecessary boost. What, even if the readings were taken in boost range, I was unaware that boost was required to get the rpm's there. Just be nice to the car, be a good sport. Supposedly downpipes are illegal but my 93 passed easy although I did have a number and $200 in my back pocket just in case. Either overlooked it or didnt look at all.
