i think the kink you're referring to is from the LHD cars in japan, the steering column comes down right next to the dp, the kink is for clearance issues...

another company that makes them is www.racingmazda.com, i know they have a 10 sec miata so there parts should be pretty good

Correct....but they are RHD in JP HAHA

but yes the kink is to clear the steering column

I recently got the tsudo downpipe and midpipe combo, and I am extremely impressed with it. In regards to midpipes, I don't believe low price determines quality it just determines how much they paid the workers to make it and the fact that they had to copy someone elses work. But I'm happy I could get my set for 150$ shipped and be able to put a meal on someones table in a 3rd world country.
