Alright guys, i have a question. I searched for intake, and found a ton of "whats better".

I removed the plastic peice in the passanger side oil cooler (i have a touring model) and was wondering if it would be a good idea to make a vent type thing to funnel the air coming into that hole up towards the intake (mine is an aftermarket pettit style) I have access to all kinds of sheet metal, plexiglass, welders and blowtourches, and I am thinking about making a box (m2style) with a plexiglass top (to see if filters are dirty...) and have the opening at the bottom of the box, by the vent.

Did that make any sense at all

People have used the otherwise unused passenger side oil cooler duct for what you're describing. I can't recall anyone posting pix of how they did what you want to do, but once you're in there it should be obvious.

In the old days, there was a kit called "Euram" that included a duct to attach to the back of the opening, some tubing and instructions.

You can also draw air from the space between the side of the radiator and the frame rail. That's where the M2 box draws air.

I'd like to see someone dino before and after an intake mod, no offense, but I am pretty skeptical of the quoted performance gains. I know my bike gained a whopping .5 hp with the K&N and that could have been anything.

In theory it should have a gain with cold air being scooped up but I agree with you on numbers first.Numbers don't lie.

why do you need a cold air intake with an intercooler? I mean you might get slightly colder air to the turbos but after its pressurized it just heats up again. Wouldn't it be better to get more air flow to the intercooler or work on a sprayer of some sort? Maybe even find a way to replace that dinky little pipe that feeds the rear turbo. I had a turbo supra and I did notice a power gain with a filter but what made a big difference was replacing the stock intake pipe with a 4" one. The turbo kicked in much faster and harder it also made it sound like a semi the turbo spooled so loud.

I'd really like to see some dynos with just a filter on a stick then on of these $300 intakes.

My air temp with the M2 intake and M2 Medium indoor intercooler was 40C on a 30C day (cruising on highway). No way in hell you can do that with an underhood air intake.

On a turbo car there is a noticeable difference. Look at the path the air has to travel on a stock FD and you can see the benefit right there.

If air temp didn't matter, why bother with an intercooler?

thats what i was thinking- I dont want to do it to gain HP, but to get cooler air in the intake- and probabily just making the engine run a tad bit cooler (every little bit counts) I wasnt going to buy anything, just make it all. Even just removing the little plastic block peice probabily helped some.

Ill work on it this week and post some pictures.

Ben
