CAR BACKFIRES HORRIBLY.....LOSES ALL POWER
#1
ok, so my car was fine one day and then later that night something horrible happened. At idle my car is 100% fine. Then when i tried to drive it home it would lose all power around 2500-3000rpm and if i tried to continue accelleration it would backfire excessively like it has a limiter set at that rpm range. What could be the problem? I have no clue at this point, my best guess is some computer tuning issue, but what has me confused beyond belief is how it happened so suddenly.
as for modifications..... im running with an apex power fc for management, also.... stock engine, 15,000 miles...intake, 3in downpipe, centerpipe, and catback. brand new stock spec spark plugs. fluidyne radiator, fluidyne oil cooler, greddy front mount intercooler, new stock injectors, walbro fuel pump....
any help would be greatly appreciated...

there shouldnt be any... hopefully.... i did just reconect all the ic piping and checked most of the lines i was around previous to other work...has anybody experienced this w a power fc?
Not with a power FC, but I had EXACTLY the same symptoms with a stock ECU - was 'stuck' at roughly 2500rpm, popping, backfiring, etc, and it happened suddenly - pulled the codes from it and it said Oil Metering Pump AND TPS! Swapped both of them out, but rather stupidly never changed one out first and then tried it - anyhow, it worked a treat. Is there a limp mode with a Power FC? I really don't know...

ok, so i guess the idle is a little off as well now, 1000-1500rpm...... ok so now it could be the oil metering pump, the TPS, fuel pump resistor relay, bad injectors or bad connection somewhere, vacuum leak, ah too many options, oh well though, better than being stuck in the dark completely.... ill get to checking these all asap, thanks for the help so far, hope this can be fixed soon...

I don't know very much at all about the technical side of the RX, but was thinking of getting a Power FC for mine - I think I've went off the idea now since you can't pull ECU codes from it like the standard ECU. I wouldn't have known where to start without the fault codes from the ECU to be honest - wouldn't it be easier to put the standard ECU back in the car if you have one and get the fault codes from it, as the vehicle is definitely in limp mode? I don't know how much work is involved in this, but wouldn't think it would be as much as trying to check the myriad of things that it could be without as much as a pointer in the right direction.

#1 typical problem on FD? Survey says:
Check you MAP sensor hose. It's on the firewall right behind the throttle body. Check for kinks, cracks, it being popped off or a family of haitian refugees living inside of it.
While you are at it.. Disconnect the battery and press the brake pedal for about a minute. Reconnect the battery cables and see if the problem stills exists. That is how you reset the ECU to take it out of "limp mode"
