2002 Engine Into A 1993 Vehicle?
#1
I'm looking into buying a 2002 rx7 complete engine, ecu and gearbox and fitting it into my 1993 rx7.
Does anyone know of any problems with installing the later engine or should it be as straight forward as putting the old one back in?
Thanks

[quote name='neit_jnf' date='Aug 5 2005, 05:00 PM']I believe the engine wiring and harness for a RHD vehicle is different from a LHD. There would lie your problems with this swap. I could be wrong though

I should have mentioned that I'm in the UK and have a jap import RX7 (right hand drive), the engine i'm thinking about buying is also from japan so I should'nt have any problems with that.
I was only wondering if there are any differences with the 1993 wiring and the 2002 model????
Cheers

I would almost think that some stuff has change! Save your self some heart aches and buy a manual with a wiring diagram or see if your harness will work with the new setup regardless if you have to modify it. Good luck

Gear box is the same for the most part, new gear ratios in some models. Have yours rebuilt and you'll save allot of money.
ECU is remapped to account for the engine modifications assuming its the 280hp engine your after. Apexi’ PFC will do the same and more.
The lower intake has the done away with the snake pit and its built in.
New turbos, refined intake and exhaust, new body part to improve airflow.
More or less a modest gain in power 216 rwhp to 238 rwhp. I’m not sure how inspections are done in the UK but in the states you can keep your car legal with over 320+ rwhp. New intake, 3” exaust with downpipe and new ECU. Porting will get you more along with an intercooler. The stock twins max out around 350 to 370 rwhp. Some have claimed in the 400 range but if true isn’t likely to be reliable.
Not really sure what you’re after but I would find a good tuner and do a rebuild which will save a few quid. Also you’ll now the quality of the part inside. I assume you would be getting a Mazda remanufacture engine which is not made with entirely new parts.

I've bought that engine, Its really clean and I reckon I've got a real bargain. Paid £1500 for a 10,000 mile 2002 280hp complete engine and gearbox with Apexi ECU and HKS manifolds. All garaunteed aswell.
I just hope its a atraight forward install, I'll keep you posted
