1994 Fd Vs. 2000 Audi A4 1.8t quattro what to buy?

if you plan on buying an fd. Be ready for a few things. One, be able to either work on a rotary car by yourself ( all tools included, engine lifts ect.) or find someone in your area that can. Along with that, you need a lot of cash for these cars. Im not just talking upgrades like so many people think is the only cost for a car. Hope you can deal with parting with every free dollar. Take into consideration that tuning is a bitch to to, most people say they can do it but arent familiar with the car. Also, you may want to think about the fact that if your car is down, and it will eventually be that way one way or another, you will need another method of transportation. And if all that isnt enough, you just have to deal with being pissed off that you cant drive it for a long time. Make sure you replace the fuel pulsation damper, it will leak overtime due to being old. Mine did. car went up in FIRE. Also alot of suspension parts will need to be replaced. mainly bushings, they tend to go bad quick. To make this short,
FD= work+lots of time+money+indepth knoledge and more money
by the way, you cant seriously compare an Rx-7 to a probe. its not even close looks or performance. what a discrace to the rx-7....
J-spec FORD probe hahaha.....

Rosati, I got mine about 6 months ago now, and I love it, but I've got to agree with these guys, they can be expensive to run / fix. You asked what can go wrong other than vac hoses etc? If you lose a rotor tip (50 - 80K miles, or running lean) you are looking at 2K - 3K to get it fixed (sorry, I'm talking UK prices so you may need to scale it a bit). Similarly for water seals (equivalent of a head gasket). If you're keeping sequential turbos and don't make good pressure, you can swallow many, many hours trying to get it right; not just vac pipes, but solenoids and valves as well. Rear bushes wear out, and cost £300 for parts alone. For the kind of money you're talking about, you may also need to worry about the cooling system - AST (£100), radiator (£300) and hoses (£100). Keeping the cooling system in good condition is absolutely vital, and unfortunately the high under-bonnet temperatures mean that all the rubber and plastic stuff gets cooked. I don't mean to put you off, but hope you know what you are getting yourself inot.

The Audi might break less often but when it does it will cost you. German cars are notorious for expensive parts.
Mark
no parts for my vw's are cheap as hell but the parts for my audis are expensive as parts can get... if you want an awsome audi and dont want to spring for an s4... dont go with the 1.8t they are great but the 2.8l is a much better engine and the supercharge for it will make it an actuall fun car it will be very quick off the line and wont be waiting for that turbo to spool up like you would with upgraded turbos... a4 2.8 is what i would go for if i were you, they are damn affordable to.
oh yeah and nopistons 94 What the **** are you gonna do? seriously make up your damn mind, is it gonna be the small block 327? or wait your building a civic right? now its an s4? where are you gonna get 30k for an s4?

In a nutshell , what things mostly go wrong, besides lost pressure from vac lines and bad lines?
the only parts on an fd ive never seen broken are the driveshaft and steering rack, seriously. ive seen the hood break, the body break, you name it ive seen it broken

you gotta be ******* crazy to consider a 1.8t or a RX7. Im thinking of selling my FD for a S4 and I didn't want to make the performance sacrifice, a 1.8t is like a ****** box on wheels that runs 16s in the 1320.
back in the day a couple friends of mine had s4's (this is in 2000), with a chip and muffler bypass pipe they were running 13 flat in the quarter. big piles of **** though, dont get one without a warranty

Let me share with you all a little bit of my knowledge. I have been in the market for both a FD and an A4 1.8t yes I siad 1.8t. You hate on it and say it doesnt make power but you are all wrong. I am very good freinds with the owner of ATP turbo which i dont know if anyone has heard of it but many have. He has spent much time and money making turbo upgrades for the 98-01 1.8t to make a kit that not only makes good power but puts it to work. We all know power bands and stuff like that. Although my Dream car is a FD I cant help but think of the fact that when thought about there is no comparisant. I have watched my freind beat his A4 to death and back. This is what he has come up with. Stock motor, with his turbo kit( includes turbo, intercooler, all piping, injectors, and upgraded clutch he runs 11.9 1/4 with over 400hp and he is very much impressed with the way the drivetrain has handled it. He has now started on turbo upgrades for s4 which he has turned me onto and now has a almost 700hp monster that runs 11.2 at approx. 160MPH!!! Spinning the whole way down the track. Although my current project is my RX-2 with a 95 FD fuel injection set up I give respect where it is due. IAnd I will always have respect for AWD Turbo cause I drove one for a long time ( 91 GSX ) and know the feeling that nothing else can give you. So anyways im not bangin on anyone just thought id through some light on the subject. Also for all you Turbo heads give my boy a look up he has great prices on the best stuff. www.ATPturbo.com. later.

so wait, let me get this straight. It makes 700 HP and runs 11.2 SHITTY. I don't give a **** if it spins all the way down the track, THAT IS ******* RETARTED and proves nothing at all to me other than the builder is a idiot. Do you know how much that stuff costs for a S4 too? **** that , dollar for dollar the FD beats the **** out of S4s or 1.8garbages. I wanted the S4 for luxury till I found out that they have MORE problems then a FD and cost MORE to fix.

Never said 11.2 was good just comneted on the fact that his trap speeds once he figures out how to drive it should carry him into the low 10. He has stock suspension looks like a boat in the middle of the ocean every time he shifts. Dollar for dollar lets figure this out. Decent FD unmolested 14k, Decent S4 unmolested 19k( W/ warrenty) Motor biuld up for FD to run good boost, 3k S4 stock motor $0, turbo upgrades on FD for high horsepower, 3K turbo upgrades for S4 4k(full kit, includes, intercooler, injectors,ECU upgrade, fuel pump)
other needs from the FD in order to make power, 4k( front mount, injectors, fuel pump, ECU upgrades, waistgates, piping misc.3k not to mention a lot is left to do with drivetrain and suspension. But total so far is FD 23k S4 23k And im not picking sides cause I love both cars but i give respect to that which gets it and the S4 has my respect along with the FD. The only differnce is when you break the s4 you put all the stock **** back on and take it in for warrenty the FD you start from scratch. As as far as the problem you heard about. Youve heard them, I dont think my freind has complained once about his S4 breaking he has done nothin but complment the way everything is holding up. Sorry there was one broblem, first time he took it out he blew the end tanks off the stock sidemounts changed to a front mount and hasnt had a problem yet.
