Cool

..anyways, here are my plans for my 87 NA, i figured u guys could help me refine them a bit, maybe give some better suggestions...

no more show ****, i want pure unadultered speed, want to get the weight down a LOT, planning on removing second seat, most of dash, most of sound deadener that i can get to, maybe cut the speaker pods out....

what's the lightest anyones got their car? and what is the max hp of a

NA and how exactly do u get more hp out of a NA? any help or suggestions

are WELCOME! and i mean ANY. no more stereo stuff in it, it went be4 i took it to the shop to get the doors fixed...so waht else should i do?

heres the deal, you have to spend significant money to make an NA fast, theres no way to hack it and go fast for a week or month or 6 months then blow up, you just have to go all out.

Then theres the other option, spray, you can go fast, without much money, and it might blow up.

And one other option is, sell the car, save less money than it would take to make the NA fast, combined with the money you got from selling the NA, you buy a TurboII.

Then with the TurboII, you turn up the boost, get a FCD, hollow out the cats, and go fast... maybe adding a fuel pump in the mix too.

Weight reductions make the car more nimble and accelerate faster but they won't make the car very fast without some money spent on power. Unfortunately there just isnt a very cheap way to make a NA fast without turning to spray or boost.

hrm i see.....t2....sounds good, now to find one in Missouri :P

But how exactly do they get more hp out of an na? with turbo it seems easy,

buy a bigger or more efficient turbo, with na, buy a new intake? exhaust?

do u see what i am trying to say? i don't understand how the NA can have

more power than it does (except for maybe tweaking ECU..) i'm a little slow

today tho, i just got off of work :P

Lots of porting! Throttle body, manifolds, motor, etc. Freeing up the intake and exhaust, upgrading the fuel system and spark. If you want even more power, and have a bunch of money laying around, you could always build more of a "racing" motor. PP housings, hardened E-Shafts, lightweight rotors, etc, etc.

Anything is possible with $$$$$$$.

intake / exhaust will make it faster but not fast. The stock ECU is a bottleneck and it costs decent $$ to get rid of it, porting is also important but to make a fast NA you typically port the engine to have a higher power band , which requires you to do other things to make the engine tolerant of the higher revs (and able to sustain the revs happily while still retaining reliability) which is a somewhat expensive task also.

unless you have the $$ to do it right the first time, doing it piece by piece is probably going to leave you unsatisfied and over time out a decent amount of money... which could have gone towards a TurboII which would have been going faster already with just the boost turned up and some simple reliability / preventative mods.

This is basically true about most cars, the boosted vs. NA argument is not rx-7 specific. If a model is available in boosted or NA form, it's usually a better idea to go with the boosted model if you're trying to go fast on a budget, on boosted cars +10HP is generally just a minor boost controller adjustment away. On NA, without spray, +10HP is usually well over $100 to achieve. Not to mention most of the time the boosted models have stronger drivetrain parts and on piston cars the boosted models often have forged internals where the NA models won't.

In the long run when you start getting into the all-out stages they both start to cost the same (money pits either way), but the boosted version will be faster still, at least in a straight line.

Another point is this motors small size, which hinders its ability to make torque. This is really only true for the NA motors, a properly sized turbo will increase torque more or as much as it will increase HP..............

more torque = more gooder

(i had a v8 once )
