Will a RX-7 still start if it has a bad water thermo switch? I am getting that code out of the ECU, and the car doesn't want to start. Thanks

maybe, the ecu will either think its -32c outside and flood the engine, or it will assume its 80c, and not give you enough to start it

I have the same water thermo sensor problem right now (on my 88 Turbo II). Error code says water thermo sensor. When I figure out what it is, I'll let you know.

its either the thermoswitch, ecu or wiring in between

My concern would be if the ecu is bad. What are my options w/ the stock ecu? Open it up and resolder it? Purchase another one from a seller and hope that it is good?

You check if the thermo switch is good with a ohm meter, I can give you the specifics if you want, just got to get the factory book out of my car, maybe j9f3s has it handy?

at 68f it should be 2-3 k ohms

and at 180f it should be .1-.6 k ohms

i used to put them in water, and slowly boil it. the sensors usually get slow and "cold" over time. the ecu is looking 1 for an open circuit, and 2 to see if its out of range.

so if the sensor tests close, that might not be enough to trigger a code.

you are also looking for loose/ inermittant connections

I left mine unpluged once and it wouldn't start.
