Tranny stuck in Reverse.....

ok heres the thing, i go to shift in reverse today and it won't come out WTF. but then it comes out reverse and will only go in first and second gear but its still in reverse. yes i can put it in first and second but i let the clutch out and it still goes backwards. anybody have any idea wtf is going on i would greatly appreciate it but i already bought another tranny so if there is anything i should know bout replacing the tranny it would help me out a lot.......

Ive run into this 3 times. Every time the tranny got shifted wrong and was stuck between gears. What happens is 2 of the 3 rods used for shifting are where they should not be and cause the whole thing to have an attitude..



If the tranny is out you can just pull off the rear cover, flip the paddles back where they belong and then put the cover back on. Its kinda like playin operation though and the selector paddle needs to be in a specific positon to get it back on properly. Dont forget a slim coat of permetex. Dirt and grime all over the tranny make it a real mess.

This happened to a buddy of mine. You can take out the back up light switch and use a small screw driver to pull the rod back. He found a how-to on Miata.net .

hey thanks for for that little trick it worked but we put the other tranny in anyway....... so now we are gonna sell the old one on EBAY or somethin or if u know anyone who will want let me know.......

the trannys not worn out it just got stuck in reverse but now its fixed, never grinded any gears or nuthin........
