Well, I changed the oil on my base model 87 about 5 days ago. So I go to check the oil again like a good little boy and I find out that it is over the full line. Now I put in 6 quarts, which the manual says to do (well 6.1 exactly, so I figured I had a bit of leeway). Anyways, my oil also smells like gas, which i've heard is a common symptom for rotary engines. Is this a problem of gas getting into my oil? Or did I flail and idiotically put too much oil into my engine? Any help (even at the cost of my intellegence) would be much appreciated. Thanks!

it might happen that your oil smells like gas (i.e. excessive flooding when starting car). just put the required amount and you'll be fine. its also normal to have more oil (when reading the dipstick) when your car was running minutes before...thats why you have to clean your dipstick at first, put it back and take the second reading..

the 6.1 number is from dry. theres about a quart or so in the cooler/lines that doesnt come out when you change the oil. on an na it doesnt care if you over fill it. the gas smell is pretty normal

Right on, I'll just redline it more than usual. Thanks for the input guys. I'll tell my "friend" not to overfill his oil again . Because... why would I do something as stupid as that?
