Sub Mounting
#1
Ok, well, my car came with 2 spare tires in my vert...no clue as to where they came from . Anyway, i was trying to figure out whether you could hack the center part out of the holder under the cover and use that as a sub mount. Either that or cut it down and make a pod for em. Is this possible?? I didnt read about doing it so i thought id ask. Thanks

but hacking away the center mount do you mean the support piece that goes under the spare tire in the compartment behind the seats? if so you could do that and use the spare tire location in the trunk.. thats what I did.. and I mounted all my sound junk behind the seats..

It's the piece that holds the tire, under that cover behind the seats in a vert, so yes. Any recommendations? Thinking of dropping a 12" sub in there. I was also thinking of making a fiberglass piece for it too. Would that be a good idea, because if that cover is off, I think it'd be sweet.

Yeah its a good place to have the sub... but if you put the cover over the box the cover will rattle from the air rushing out.. but if you will run with no cover then its all good.. 1 12 will fit fine in there.. gettin the airspace for 2 12 will require creative positioning and measuring.. but can be done..

Here are the pics of the sub enclosure I built to use two 12's...
A ported box will allow you to use a smaller amp to get the same sound, but I think the size of the box has to be a little larger than if you use a sealed box and throw more power at it. If you are interesed in only using one sub, there is more than enough room to make a nice enclosure of either style. Finishing off the space after the box is built would seem to be more challenging than actually building the box when using a single sub driver.
