The stock electric cooling fan stopped working in my 86 na auto and the red warning light came on.

I took the small electric cooling fan out of my car and pulled the fuse to make the cooling fan light go out.

Do I need this fan?

I cant find a used one in the junk yards and I'm starting to think that not all 2nd gens had this installed. I can't even find a new electric motor. It's on a 15 amp circuit so the motor is not that big.

ideas?

check the taurus cooling fan thread in the FAQ section.

But I cant see why a auto car has the fan, I guess to help cool the tranny cooler in the radiator? Or did the auto car come with a external cooler?

Do you mean the little pusher fan that sits in front of the radiator?? I believe this is tied in to the Air conditioning system, and can turn on when the A/C is on. Also it is supposed to come on when the cooling system reaches very high temps (207* I think?)

Yea, that is the fan that comes on with the a/c and when the coolant gets hot. Got a wiring diagram from the dealer. My car is running a little hot but I would be surprised if that little fan does that much. and my A/c has been coverted to the new freon and it doesn't get that cold.

maybe I need the the little fan.

FYI

Changed the thermostat and test drove it without the electro fan. Staying much cooler on the first night run ( water temp 1/3rd up vise 2/3rds up ) and the a/c even feels a cooler. I'll try it in traffic and heat tomarrow and post if anyone g.a.s.

Maybe the bad thermostat caused the little elec fan to run more and ware out?

Thanks for the help,

Critter

did you remove your clutch fan??? if your a/c fan is the only thing trying to keep your engine cool, then something is definatley wrong. On top of it being a pusher fan it doesn't push enough air to keep the car cool in traffic on a hot day. I found that out them my e-fan's relay went bad.

you either need the stock clutch fan and shroud or a puller e-fan with shroud

I've never seen an S4 with a stock auxillary fan either.. wonder if that's just for auto's?

Aggie, if the little bitch isn't doing anything, take her out and see how the big guy does by himself (like Critter did).
