S4 rolling shell to s5 13bt swap
#1
Hi Guys,
After scouring the internet for hours.. I have come back to here and a local site for help.
Before you ask.. yes.. yes I did search.. a lot.. it was painful.. I have done no work for the past 3 days because of it! I am just hoping to get a better idea if I am following the right reasoning in my situation.. as most of the swap questions were around cases where the car originally had an engine etc to begin with.
I am still weighing up every option for what engine to go with in my S4 FC and this is definitely one of them.. a recap and problem:
I currently have a rolling S4 turbo/manual shell.. its missing all running gear and pretty much all engine bay components (oil cooler to reservoir tank... everything.. its bare, bone dry), has a pretty wrecked dash, stuffed from bumper and is looking pretty worse for wear.
after weighing up a number of options I have been looking to just grab a series 4 13bt and box to chuck in as I do have the s4 loom sitting in wait (both engine and interior including ecu), however I have noticed I can pick up a number of series 5 motors much easier (whether these are genuine s5's thats another question). Obviously the problem there being that the s5 motors are slightly different and would require the transfer of s4 parts onto the the s5 motor.. but since I don't have even an old stuff s4 13bt and cant even find one... its sounding kinda painful.
One thing I had been considering is grabbing an entire s5 turbo front cut (which are available), which literally includes everything the factory saw fit to put in an S5 right back to the dash and gear area. Since I essentially have a bare shell missing everything, this did seem like a good idea.. I would just strip the s4 remaining components completely out including the dash and interior loom and literally transplant the lot across.. I would even have a working model to go from with the front cut.
The more I read though the more the forums bag this idea... am I missing something? although I realize it be a pain in the ***.. it would be about as much work as doing the basic s5 transplant by adding s4 engine bolt ons to the engine, which I don't have so would have to source, buy and freight to me, and at the same time it would replace my damaged panels and bumper, give me a new dash and give the added benefit of the s5 engine and gearbox as well as all the miscellaneous stuff in the engine bay I don't have.
is my logic flawed?
again.. really did try to search for this, but nothing quite seemed to fit to my situation.
cheers
Rob
