I wasn't really sure where to post this, so if there's a different place for this kind of question i'm sorry.

today at work i got into a discussion today with a guy who owns an rx-8. he was talking about how he bought the renesis with the 6 speed because it had more power than the automatic. i had said that the reason is because the 6 speed is the 6 port engine, while the automatic has the 4 port engine...essentially the same 13b engine that was used in the turboed rx-7...just without the turbo more or less.

But he kept arguing that it wasn't the same engine because the renesis engine is not a 13b.

Last time i checked the renesis was a 13b...or am i mistaken?

a renisis is a 13b. the 6 speed is a 6 port the auto is a 4 port. the share nothing other than thery as the old 13b. the renisis is a 13bmsp wich stands for multiple side port. the 13bmsp uses side exhaust ports where the old 13bs use a perifrial exhaust port. there is more diferances between the 2 engines then just the porting aswell.

Yeah, the lack of any peripheral ports is the big design change but it implies lots of other things. For example, apex seals can be designed differently now that they always just run along smooth housing so there's no ports to smack on the edges of. And it's got stronger, lighter components than the REW (fd motor) had but still with all of the REW's racing-derived oiling and cooling upgrades. Basically it makes my S4 N/A motor look like a dinosaur.

actually sine 06 the AT has the same 6 port engine as the manual, they do redline it lower, so thats where the power difference is.

the important dimensions, like housing widths, and things are the same as the older 13B's, in other words its the same displacement, same size rotors and housings.

all the peices are revised however.

one other odd thing, is that they went back to the 71psi oil pressure regulator
