Yes. That is a good way to take out the rear hub's bearing race when it gets stuck on there.



That is what I did for the rear hubs. FOr the front hubs just follow the mazdatrix write up. The heating in the oven the hub and freezing hte race of the bearings helps a bit, but not necessary. Just make sure you clean the seat of the race in the aluminum hub's bore. You do not want any debris in there that could prevent the race from seating perfectly against the seat.

 

I've done that. I've had the new races drop out in the oven as i'm trying to heat them up the second time to put in the opposite side. I think the hubs have limited life as the aluminum fatigues faster as removing the races over and over wears them out, along with the heat cycles. I"m going to use untouched hubs for my next maintenance.



Has anyone used the Super Now hubs yet?

No question about it, if the races have been changed a few times, the hub is going to be worn a bit and the fit will be looser. This is especially true if the person driving out the race is careless and does not keep the race fairly square in the bore and uses a lot of force. On my '66 Nova (with iron hubs) the bore was so boogered up from a careless bearing race removal, that the new race practically rattled around in there.
