Rear Wheel Bearing
#1
Hi all,
Finally pinned down the noise coming from the rear of my '88. Got bad enough now that I'm able to wiggle the wheel back and forth. I've got the section on replacing the bearing from the factory manual and I've got the new bearing. The manual talks about a bunch of different tools to do it. Is this something I can do with a vise, a big hammer and a socket to pound the bearing in and out? Does the coil spring need to be compressed to take off that knuckle? Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the reply. If I understand you right, I don't need all the fancy tools except for maybe a real press? I'll go ahead this weekend and do it myself. I managed to rebuild the whole suspension on my '71 vette with a vise, hammer and some creativity.
Not sure what I was thinking about the spring- that's only to change the shock, right? Never have done a strut before.
Any ideas on what the dealer would charge for the whole deal? The bearing alone cost $45 at O'Reilly's.
