Programmable ECU

With those programmable ecus could u program it to keep stock fuel consumption, then like hit a different map or button, and turn the Rx-7 into a gas gusslin hp machine? I mean could u keep gas mileage up and engine wear down when daily driving and with the flick of a switch change to full blown racer, and switch back after a sec?

The fuel map won't change instantly, and I'm pretty sure what your asking to do will involve a pretty expensive setup. You will need an independent system like a Haltech or Wolf3d most likely, along w/ a standalone PC type machine(laptop or even palmtops these days).... companies like Gforce don't make an ECU that can be changed manually like what your describing. They offer ECUs that have to programmed by them according to your setup. Oh well...I know it can be done, but I'm not sure of an exact setup...
