It almost sounds like a mild grinding or rubbing that I hear a little in third gear. However, it is very noticible in fifth gear. There is no noise in the low row gears, and I cannot "feel" the noise in the shifter.

Has any one ever had this problem or heard of it?

I found the car at a junkyard. From what I have determined thus far it sat for 2-3 years. So I would say best case scenario the Tranny fluid was changed in 2003... But more than likely it has not been changed for much longer than that. Changing the fluid is definitely high on my list of priorities but I thought that bad fluid would cause it to sound "clunky" in all gears, not just 3rd and 5th. What thinks you?
