Newbie.well At Least To This Site...guru's Needed!
#1
[B]First off...Hello to you all...obviously this is my first post on this site....and here's my story...I just got my hands on a 87 NA...the guy didnt want it anymore and i wanted a toy car...so hey..why not...and the price was almost too good to be true...I currently own a 99 Altima...and am all over the Altima forum page that is extrememly similar to this one.....that site has been of great help to me and hope this one will be just a great an asset...at any rate..here is my dilema...and this is where the almighty guru's come in...I have always dealt with and raced piston vehicles (i.e-94 sentra, 79 celica, my 99 alty, 3000gt vr-4). I've done all my own work with those vehicles but, I have no clue as to what the hell im doing with a Rotary...This car is in need of some serious work...the prior owners heated the springs and right now the car sits on it's nuts, the exhaust-well that just doesnt exist anymore due to how low the car is...and the damn thing just rusted away...all the exterior lights are hard wired-somebody decided to play bob the electrician and screwed it all up...and it appears as though the ignition system is shot...the car will turn over but wont start up, the guy i got it from says it's not getting any spark...Ideally im going to rebuild this thing..but mainly i want to get it running...so here are the questions..
1. What reading material can i get my hands on to familiarize myself with this motor and how it works. (i read through several threads on this site and im pretty lost with the phrasing)
2. Initial ideas on where i should start with ignition system.
3. and where in the hell can i get my hands on some struts/shocks/springs-stock used stuff is fine for now...like i said..i just want to get it running right now....i should really post a pic of how low this damn thing is....not that low is bad..
Im really excited about getting back into a rear wheel drive vehicle...front wheel drive just doesnt do it for me...i definitely long for some drifting and rear wheel burnouts....and im impressed with the fairly simple and straight forward layout of the motor...
Any help is greatly appreciated, I'm going to continue to dig through the website looking for more and more information, i've found a great wealth as it is already...
Thanks in advance...

First off I think you need to go find a wrecker and get rid of the hack job harness' with some untampered with ones.As for your spark problem.try to see if a spark is present. If theres no spark then you need to look at a few possiblities. One thing would be timing and another could be a bad harness. As for your suspension check the buy and sell forum for the parts or e-bay or even the parts trader.Either way you shouldn't have too many problems find some parts for it.After all it is a Series 4 car.

IMO, If you currently have a daily driver, fix the car like you want it, don't waste time and money doing things twice.
second: an auto wrecker is a good idea for some parts(*racerX) dealerships are spendy if they stock what you're looking for
A Hayes repair manual will give you a good start for hands on info.
congrats and gook luck

I'm just suggesting. Some harness' like those hack job ones are just as easy to get a replacement at a wrecker with no cuts or broken wires. But Yeah new is always nice to have.pricy but nice.

First of all you can do an internet search to get a basic idea of how a rotary engine works. There is a web site called How Stuff Works that gives a good basic view on how rotary engines function.
The nice thing about RX-7's is that they are pretty easy to work on.
The exhaust system is bolt on. No welding needed. It consists of the exhaust manifold, the catalytic converter system and the cat-back. All are replaceable pretty cheaply. Look at MazdaTrix, RX-7.com and others for parts. They do sell used parts occasionally.
A wrecker would be a great start to get the wiring harnesses and such. If you are lucky maybe even an exhaust.
The wiring sounds really screwed up so get that crap out of there.
If you have spark, the engine may be flooded. You can pull the EGI fuses and then turn the engine over about 15 times with the accelerator to the floor. Then replace the EGI fuses and see if it will start. Check out RX-7.com for details on this unflooding procedure.
The web-site fc3s.org has a shop manual available on-line in Adobe format to view.
Good luck.

This is definitely on hell of a response for a first post...thanks to you all for the info...especially the websites...i definitely have some work ahead of me....but that's why it's a toy car-eventually a daily driver/racer. A couple more questions of you dont mind.
1. I've heard a couple of people saying flooding...as far as rotaries...what does that mean?
2. I have no spark at all, did that screwdriver and a dumb friend trick...no shock at all-kinda has 2 down sides...no spark, and couldnt laugh at him.
cant think of anything else right now...going over to where i have the car parked tonight to do another look over and see what else i can find..
Thanks to you all again..
