Hi everyone, I am the proud new owner of an 87 rx7 na SE. I have always wanted one ever since I got into the drift culture and all that jdm madness. so it has been like 5 years Ive been waiting as my daily driver is an extremely reliable 93 geo prizm. Im 19 and I have been working now for about 2 years and currently I am a valet. the first time i drove a 2nd gen It was exactly how i thought it would be in terms of handling and cockpit feel. For months I had been searching craigslist religiously looking for a decent rx7 or other coupe that i could fix up in the jdm fashion. One nite I came across a red 87 n/a located in San Jose it was listed with low miles and a must sell. I contacted the owner and it turned out to be a towing company. I went up to test drive the car right away. Mileage was just above 64k. The car looked great minus the dirty carpet and seats from what looks like coffee stains and years of sitting. The sunroof worked. headlights go up. wipers work. no hesitation. white smoke upon immediate startup goes away after engine gets up to running temp. no grinds in tranny. i was all smiles while I drove it around some streets. There are some problems though. Fuel meter only reads above half a tank. Speedometer reads about 7mph over actual speed. the ACV valve had one of the wires cut from it. stock air filter. I reconnected the wires for the acv valve. Replaced the air filter with HKS drop in. I took it to get smogged and results were way too high in HC, CO, and CO2. Im hoping that it is just the acv valve. I already have a replacement on the way. I was wondering if there would be anything else that might cause my car to run so rich?? It has new plugs+wires, o2 sensor, tps is good, when I used the checker lamps to check cpu codes I got no lights on at all, new oil, new coolant. I replaced the coolant filler cap because it was leaking and i think it still might have a tiny leak. I have only done minor repairs on my prizm like new exhaust manifold and new radiator, oil changes etc.

Hey everyone, I recieved the acv valve that I ordered off of ebay. It said it worked well so I just figured to get it because the junkyard over here doesnt have one rx7 so It was my only option. well I installed it and connected the wires. and the car started like normal but after it warmed up it falls into a bouncy idle that hovers just above 500rpm to about 800rpm. and the engine starts shaking a little when the idle is low. it still drives great and revs no problem. could anybody tell me what the problem may be?? Im thinking that the acv I installed was bad and has a vaccum leak inside. I included a pic of my old one which had cut wires.. my previous idle was right around 800rpm

I tightened it up a bit more because the screws were hard to reach so I unknowingly left them a little loose. the idle sounds better and is more consistant

Hey,wuts up everyone! I intalled my new acv and took the car to my local smog shop and they did a preliminary test on the tailpipe to see where I was on the emissions readings to see if it was worth getting it smogged. The HC readings were a lot better than before, but still remained over the gross poluter limit. here are the results: at idle: HC, 515 CO: 3.89%, CO2: 12.7%, 02:0, P.E.F: .492 . higher RPM: HC:851, CO: .96%, CO2: 14.4, O2: .4, P.E.F: .492. Im in California so the mac HC is 270 and CO:2.50, I figure that im pretty close to passing now. I think it maybe the stock cat needs replacement or maybe dirty injectors. I havent changed fuel filter yet either. This is my first rotary and I've been searching the forums for info but there seems to be little on emissions, besides removal, and whatnot. Could u guys give me some direction? what would be a good catalytic converter for this car? I know the Bonez high flow cat is good, but what else? I was looking at a magnaflow cat on ebay that looks good. does anyone have any experience with these? I appreciate the help.
