I am looking into buying a 86' GXL coupe from some guy i know,he says that it runs hot and that all it needs is the seals/gaskits for the intake manifold,he says the cumbustion or whatever is coming out of the head and into the intake and warming the water and is making it run hot ,it has been sitting awhile and he says the seals/gaskits have rotted , IS HE CORRECT IN THE FACT THAT IF I REPLACE THE SEALS/GASKITS FOR THE INTAKE THAT I WILL RUN CORRECTLY AND NOT RUN HOT?????PLEASE HELP ME

 

normally running hot means bad thermostat. does it burn coolant ?

 

I dont know but he said he took it somewhere and the guy told him it was the gaskits for the intake but i can ask him,i have also found a 13b engine in the paper for $100 would it be smarter just to replace it if it is the gaskits or just to fix it?

 

Because i am 14 and i am trading him my dirtbike and i have no money!!!and i dont wanna skrew myself buy buyinh a peice of crap that i wont be able to fix and end up losing out on the deal!

hf motorworks has parts and rebuild kits and he can rebiuld whole motor for u give him a call he can help with the problem :rice:

 

The part about the combustion coming out of the head and into the intake really bothers me. First - there are no heads on Rotary engines. If the car has been overheated the engine will probably need to be torn down.

You said you don't have any money and once you start tearing into the engine it starts to get expensive. I mean all the gaskets and seals you will need will run in the $500 neighborhood.



I say walk away and enjoy your dirtbike for another year. There will be other opportunities.

 

but a dirt bike for a car is good, think about it, your 14 and would have a car, you could very easily get a job when your 15 possibly now? thats up to you but in a couple months, say 4 months, you could have the motor rebuilt and just keep adding and adding to it until you can drive it legally! youd love it too, plus no car payment, possibly car insurance for storage purposses, its all up to you though, dirtbike,car? :bigok:

 

if you want really a 7's you MUST work because you will have to put BIG money on this car !
