I went out and was thinking it over a bit...having a scoop going up to the snorkel would send every bit of water into the airbox and probably my engine. I think I'll trash the scoop idea, but leaving that plastic divider off should be fine, right?

I don't remember exactly what you are talking about. I have been looking at an 89 for the past 4 months now. Give us a picture.

I can't take a pic, those ******* $12 camera batteries last about as long as nothing.
It's not hard to remember...It's the plastic shield JUST under where the snorkel opening is for the intake...and we all know what the snorkel is. Where it ends, the opening of it so it can suck in air, there is a plastic shield below it, and it blocks a nice big ammount of cold air from going up to the snorkel from the bumper opening.

There's two pieces of shield there. I only took off the one under the intake snorkel. I highly doubt it's going to make a difference if it is in fact a duct for the radiator.
it makes more of a difference then you know. now the air is going to be turbulent and not pass directly through the radiator. sure maybe you wont overheat but you wont be at peak cooling efficiency.
plus youre gaining 0 hp...so why sacrifice cooling efficiency for 0 hp?
