navigation system
#1
Hey guys,
Well yesterday i decided to get a Pioneer AVIC-d3 navigation system to install on my 87 TII. I didn't know what i was getting myself into... I started looking at the so called installation manual and was like I don't even know where to start... Has anyone ever installed a navigation system? I have some experience with electricity but not much, it was my worst subject in college. Anywho, If anyone could give me some pointers as to where to start, and basically the whole process i'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
Anthony.

In dash setup it see, wow. First off i'm thinking you should have went with the portable solution. But thats just me.
Where you planning on just taking everything out of the center consul (ie radio and dummy panels) and throwing it in there?
If i had to start, id clear out all the wires find your Hot wire and your grounding wires.

Well, it actually fits right where the stock radio was. It's pretty much the same exact size. Yea, I found the hot wire today but that's pretty much all i did... lol. Now i need to find an electric 12V terminal controlled by the ignition switch, a lighting switch terminal, and i have wires that need to go to the vehicle speed sensor, parking brake switch, reverse gear signal input, and a few other things. This is my worst nightmare! lol. And it really sucks because i spent alot of $ on this and i don't let anyone touch my 7! lol. So it's a mighty expensive paperweight. lol

Hmmm... So if there is no speed sensor then how am i suposed to hook it up? lol. Maybe it's impossible. All i know is the gps needs the speed sensor for it to work.
If I were to spend big bucks, I'd go for something like this, and I'm sure all it needs is a 12v outlet:

I didn't know that gps units can figure speed on their own... well why even hook it up at all then? Maybe it's just for like when you go through a tunnel and it loses it's signal? So do you think i even have to hook it up to the reverse light switch? because that's A pain.
