2nd Generation Specific 1986-1992 Discussion

My 90 RX7 will not turn over/start. The starter itself is fine.

I didn't get any responses in the new members section, so I'm posting this on here. While I'd like to say I love my RX7, it's broken again! So I just can't again until it's repaired.

I have a 1990 N/A 5spd RX7

It's not flooded!

I changed the clutch master cylinder out 2 days ago. The new master is working just fine, but the car has not run since.

The battery is fully charged.

I connected 12v to the ignition on the starter and it turned my car over just fine.

All of the accesories work just fine on the car, including the fuel pump, when the ignition is switched to on.

The switch on the clutch pedal is fine. I've even bypassed it just to check and there was no change.

When I turn the switch to start, there is no clicking from the starter, the lights do not dim, and voltage does no drop.

My guess is I've accidentally bumped something or something shorted out when I changed the master. I've never had any problem starting the car before this in 14 months of ownership.

Any help from more experienced members would be greatly appreciated!

I had a similar problem with my '91. It turned out to be a relay located on the side of the engine bay near the clutch slave. The relay costs about $30.00 to $50.00. The relay is the starter or kill relay. You might also check the main fuses. It sure beats having the car towed to the dealer.

Do you get a "click" sound as you move the key to the "start" position? If you get the click and the starter doesn't engage the starter solenoid has failed.

Theres no clicking. If I put power to the ignition wire on the starter it works just fine and turns the car over. So I'm sure the starter and solenoid have no problems.

I've attached some pictures. If someone could tell me how to bypass the aformentioned Starter cut Relay (pictured) I'd appreciate it. Going from the two larger wires doesn't work.

just trace the black and red wire. ive had the same problem, and i simply found it connected to a connector all alone underneith the dash next to the stearing column, and then i traced it to anotehr lone connector in the engine bay, and jumpered everything in between that, and low and behold, works liek a charm every single time.
