If It's Not One Thing It's Another...

OK, so I fixed the half inch gash in the heater line that magically appeared sometime in the last day or two (couldn't figure out why I put 2 gallons of water in the thing over 20 minutes of driving ), and *somehow* managed to magically get my oil pressure guage working!!! Yeah!! I'm going to claim full responsibility for fixing it, but my special technique will remain secret...
That's the good part.
Blew ALL of my PS fluid all over the engine bay when the pump crapped out at highway speeds. Haven't had a chance to check it out, but the pump makes some nasty crunchy sounds when it's spinning, and I have no steering assist.
That's the bad part..
So, is it easier to go manual (I don't mind, but the PS is nice around town), or to grab a new PS pump and just replace it? Since it's been a while since I've had a manual steering car, is it more effort turning a 7 with a full manual R&P conversion, or a power steering system where the pump is disabled?
