Yeah, S4 has the little flapper for the twin scroll on it and S5 does not. Also, the S4 turbo flange is not perfectly rectangular, whereas the s5 is. Another diff, if you separate the turbo from the manifold, the ports on the turbine on the s4 are different sizes, one small, one big. The s5 ports are both the same size.

turbo to manifold flange on an s5 is "square" with 2 ports, or its divided, manifold and turbo.

s4 is a 5 sided thing, turbo is divided, but not equally, and the manifold isnt divided

what about this HT18 thing? or should I just seperate the turbo from the manifold?

Im pretty sure its a S5 only because thats the only engine we got in that we took the turbo off, but now its been lost in the shuffle and were not sure if it definitly came off that S5 engine

it actually has almost no shaft play so it would be a good buy for someone who just wants a stock turbo set up

The number is cast on the cold side of the turbo is HT18S, not sure if the s4 is any different.

S4 has HT18s-2s.

If the manifold has an actuator arm on it, its an S4.
