Hooked Up Code Checker...o2 Sensor Failure Lights

well i have been having some bucking and stuttering problems with my primaries or atleast before 4000rpms ...i put the code checker to work and find out the oxygen sensor is shooting an error code. it only shoots it when the engine is running. this doesnt make sense because the wire clearly connects to the harness and the sensor is fairly new. can the ecu connection be bad? and what does the code mean about the oxygen sensor?
of course i don't even see how this can correlate with my stuttering

The O2 sensor wire is coaxial, with a ground shield like audio signal cables.
Also the sensor puts out a weak current 1 volt signal.
The ground reference for that signal is the exhaust pipe.
A fresh exhaust to body ground may fix it.

By exhaust you mean a bolt on something like the DP?

I thought FCs used single wire o2 sensors. Not sheilding even. I have a bosch universal in my that you splice into your old o2 sensor's wire/connector and it is not sheilded.
If you indeed bought the sheilded one instead of the NTK direct OEm replacement, I would check to make sure your crimp (shudder...) is good, and if in doubt solder it.
I would then check the wire going into the o2 sensor. I know that if you did not remove your o2 sensor when you were installing or removing the downpipe the o2 sensor will get banged against the car and the little snub at the top get's bent and hte o2 sensor is done.
