I'm looking at getting a N/A S4 or S5 RX7, (S4 seems more likely at the moment) and would like to swap in a turbo 13b in. I'm looking at doing the swap around spring of 08. I'm thinking of just doing the engine at that time and then maybe the turbo drivtrain swap down the road (everyone recommends the drivetrain swap, is the N/A drivetrain really that weak?).

So I just curious to what would be a more practical swap an S4 or an S5 turbo engine? My goal is only 190-205whp. I know that the S4 is a more direct swap in terms of wiring, and the S5 has about 15-20 more hp. Which could I expect to be slightly more reliable? What are the do's and don't of mixing chasis and engine series (example S5 engine in S4 chassis). Once again worth it?

As for my topic question is there anyone on this forum that does harness rewiring? Basically make a plug and play harness to stick a turbo engine where a N/A one was. Or even better are there any shops within 50 miles of Boston MA that anyone would recommend for work on Rotary engines (aka do the swap for me).

Also I did some research and learned that I need the following for the swap (did I miss anything):

-turbo & engine with intercooler

-Left-hand drive spec turbo wiring harness

-Turbo ECU

-knock control box on the 87-88 engine/harness?

-turbo boost sensor.

-Turbo throttle cable.

-turbo brake boost vacuum pipe?

-Stock turbo fuel pump

-stock blow off valve

-new exhaust

- T2 hood with

-Turbo air flow meter

-Aftermarket Boost gauge

-n/a flywheel.

Thanks to all replies!

By that time my 13BT would be running, we've done a cosmo into a FC too. Our shop just moved from Framingham to Braintree. Wiring and transplant shouldn't be a problem...

where are you located?

If you get a complete engine, harness and ecu, the swap should be very easy. The ECU really only needs four or five wires hooked up to run. I got a ECU connector with a short pigtail from another Mazda of the same year (protege I think), moved a couple of the pins (the connector was the same shape but not all the wires were in the same holes), and hooked it up from there. Once it is running you can have all sorts of fun hooking up the rest of the wires.

It is easier to get the Oil Metering Pump to function properly on a S4 than as S5. A stock ECU on an S5 just needs 12 volts going to the pump. The wire is a little hard to find. The s4 OMP is mechanical.

Thanks for the info guys, I'm in Boston MA.

I would just like to at one point a semi reliable rotary with decent power.

I'm thinking it should be about the same ammount of work for either and S4 or S5 engine in a S4 chassis right?
