Few Questions On 5th & 6th Ports, Air Pump Removal
#1
Well, one of my questions will hopefully be answered soon, since someone's parting out a few RX-7s.
I just cleaned up my 5th & 6th port actuators - the rear one is nice & clean, should be working now, but the front is still toast. After an hour of pounding on the thing (after removing the air pump (seized anyway), intake hose, and some other assorted junk in the process), I got the actuator off. However, it's completely frozen, and I hold little hope for it, since it started rattling at some point in the process of pounding the crap out of it to remove it. I can move the rod with a hammer - that's it.
Where would one obtain a replacement for one of these? It seems the front & rear are identical? Also, where does one get replacement gaskets?
On to the air pump. I understand they're solenoid activated? Mine had no wires going to it at all. It's also completely seized. I currently have two openings I don't know what to do with - one going into the side of the engine, and one going into the air filter. Obviously, the one going into the air filter needs plugging up, since it's on the "clean" side - but do I have to worry about the one in the engine? Will it be venting exhaust into my engine compartment if I don't do anything with it?
And, finally, the catalytic converter in my car is rather empty of any sort of innards. Will this reduce back pressure enough that the ports don't actuate? I still have the precat & such, but I'm planning to remove it in the future (when I get enough money). I live in Iowa, so I don't have emissions tests (though if I ever move, I'm going to have a hard time passing them).
Thanks! Sorry for all the questions, this is the first car I've owned that I've worked on more than "Keep it running" level work.
