Electrical Mayhem. Please help me :(
#1
Ok.. heres how it starts. I go to pick up my '87 RX7 GXL from getting a new slave cylinder and clutch put in. The mechanic told me he had an extremely hard time getting it started. I was confused because i had never had any problems with it starting b4. He finally hot it started and told me he was not turning it off until i got there to pick it up. It was running when i got there and then i got in and drive it home. The engine temperature was about 2/3ds the way up, usually its anly about 1/3rd. Ive never even seen it past half. After I got home i turned it off and it started up first try, no problems. I was driving to my friends house and the volt meter wouldnt push past 12 volts yet the car still turned over fine. When leaving there it started fine, but it ran VERY bad. The slightest draw of electricity ( even door locks) would make the car about stall. Later that night I was going to have my friend drive it to see what he thought... it turned over rapidly and sputtered but would not run for more than 2 or 3 seconds. He then notice the speedometer illumination light instantly melted the odometer and needle off! The car has a second battery in it, its a performance car audio battery with about 2800 CCAs. For diagnostic purposes i disconnected it and had him try to start it. It would not fire once. With the second battery connected it would once again sputter. We went and got a new battery for under the hood and had the alternator tested. The alternator is still putting out about 14.5 volts and tested fine. With the new battery in once again it would not fire without the second one connected.. Just under the hood battery, nothing in the car works including the headlights but would turn over quickly. If I connect the second battery, everything inside once again works.. Even with both connected, any draw of power would cause everything else to dim or turn off. With the key in the accy. position the radio blinks on and off... Any Ideas??
Battery is good, Alt. id good, and all fuses are good. New Plugs, he said they were all getting spark.
