Coolant Drain Plug
#2
heh, that genious inside the freaking motor mount design. Personally i never take mine out, but flush and flush the coolant in the radiator, fill it back up, let the car run until its hot. Do the same thing again once it cools down. Its frustrating cuz it takes several hours at least to do a couple flushes, but i think its worth it when you see the crap that comes out of there.

I know you can never get a complete flush, but i figure if i get the **** out of the block that would decrease the number of flushes tenfold.
GODDAMN IT!! Anyone else have trouble reaching this ***** of a bolt? How did you do it?

hell on my old NA EVERYTHING was easier. There was way more room in the engine bay to play around in.
Anyways, results --
Came to my parent's place, sitting at idle car was pushing 195 degrees, nice and hot day. After the flush/redline water wetter, car was at 180, no more no less. Well 170 until i drove it around the block. After a very spirited run (while there are still bubbles in the system lol), the temp went up to 195. Later on in the evening, the car club and I decide to go for a cruise... so after some, once again, spirited driving (this time in a cooler ambient temperature), the temp didnt go past 190. Overall I'm happy with the results, however, the temp does still seem to go up rather quickly when revving over 3,000RPM. I've deduced that my airpump belt IS loose. Probably why it's slipping I guess. That reminds me, if the water pump belts are slipping, would you hear them?
The water pump housing looks brand new, as does the pump, and I imagine that they were changed with the engine 20,000km's ago... So I don't think it's the pump.
I'll give you a better idea of what temps I'm running after i go for a rip when it's a little warmer at noon.
Materials:
8oz Redline Water Wetter
1gal Prestone Green
1gal De-ionized Water

Oh the drain plug!!! Yes... the drain plug!!!
HAHAHAH...
you WILL NOT SEE IT.
Feel around.
There are three studs with nuts around them...
And one long 14mm protrusion, kind of like a very extended bolt head.
It's different from the rest.
You have about 2 inches to swing your rachet before you hit the wires/hoses :P
BIG PAIN IN THE ***, and you WILL scratch up your arms :P
But do drain the block, otherwise you do NOTHING.

fingers, the temps you are talking about are the same thing that my car does. I have an FMIC that blocks about 50% of the airflow to the radiator however. Do you have a stock bellypan still? I found that with the belly pan on I cool down almost 15% faster (yes i datalogged the temp)
