Unhappy

I've been having voltage drop for a while. When I'm changing suspension setting, opening head lights or any electric charges. So I checked the resistance between the 'R' connection on the alternator and the '+' on the battery and read 50 ohms. This wire is supposed to be connected to the ignition switch, so has anybody experienced that kind of weakness in wiring going to the ignition switch or to the alternator. It's also creating a battery recharging problem.

I once had a similar problem, and it turned out to be bad battery terminals. The simple test for an alternator problem would be to disconnect the battery while the car is running. If it stalls then the alternator isn't producing an adequate amount of current.

A Powermaster alternator made for GM's will go right in, and they make both 100 and 140 A models.

Im just waiting for mine to die, its been in the car since I got it. Jim- is that alternator a good choice if mine would happen to go? Im sure if mine goes, it will be on a Sunday afternoon, lol. Is that the name of it, or is there a specific application one would ask for if they went to the store to get one, and what is the stock output?

I've wanted to do that but I thought it could damage electronic things (the battery acts like a filter or condenser).

But I just found where the drop comes from, it seems to be the ignition switch. When I test with an ohmeter I see a fluctuation when I'm shaking the ignition (100 ohms as I should be reading 0 ohm).

The 86-88 alternator is rated for 70 A. 89-91 is 80 A. SK sells the Powermaster alternators.

Thanks guys for trying to help but I just solved the problem, it really was the ignition switch. Everything is just fine now, alternator is charging and no more voltage drop.
