87 s4 rx7. ok I'm really stumped because I haven't even touched anything under the hood and I just drove it home from work last night. I tried to start it this morning and it seemed to try but wouldn't actually start. Then as I made a few atempts the car started to sound different while cranking as if there was no resistance or something. The engine basically sounds like it's just spinning not cranking. The only thing that happened to make seem like it may started this problem is that it rained extremely hard before i left work making a huge puddle right in front of where i live. Barely being able to see out my fogging windshield I ran straight through it. I didn't notice anything funny with the engine though so thought nothing of it. I even let it run before cutting it off and everything seemed fine. So I'm sure if that has any thing to do it but we've checked for water and made sure it is getting fuel & spark. All seems fine so I without a clue. Help me with ideas if you have any.

no we checked all those but it doesn't matter anymore because IT WORKS. I just trying it until the engine eventually stopped doing the free spinning thing and starting doing usually cranking noise. After that I tried taking out the EGI INJ fuse to stop the fuel, cranked it for about 10 seconds and stuck the fuse back in. Crank and the engine sounded like it about to start but died so i repeated the process but this time hit the throttle when the engine reved and kept the rpms up for awhile and it started to idle. I went on a test drive and the engine slowly got back to normal. No smoke or nothing. I guess it did get some water in it last night which was keeping it from combusting. That explains the crank with no start or even atempt to start. So all is well thanks your help anyway.
