So this morning my car decided not to want to go into 5th gear anymore.. not even when the car is off, it dont grind or anything, it just dont go in period, like there is nothing there... Its gone into gear like twice all day. This sucks.. would it be a 5th gear syncro thats out? Or is there another fix for this? WHats the average cost to fix it? help!

Have you tried matching rpms to road speed and see if it slips in. It should, if it doesn't you have a problem wiht the tranny. If you are really good you can shift into gears with out using the clutch by matching rps to road speed, except into first from a stop.

its rare that the 5th gear synchro wont let you in at all, usually it will just grind.

it needs to have the tailhousing pulled off to see whats going on in there

Exactly, I've been running with broken 5th gear synchro for 5 years now.

Do you really use 5th gear anyway? 4th is my gas saver.

4th is your gas saver? boy start using 5th and youll be up 10mpg.

as for your problem, try what turborotor said, bring it to about 3-4k in 4th and without using the clutch just push it towards 5th and hold it....DONT push it into the gear just push it slightly like enough pressure to let it slide in, as the rpms go down the gate should open and let it slip in. this is how i drive 90% of the time, i hate clutching it's so tiresome.

if not, welcome to the world of 4speed.

simple fix: just get a smaller rear diff gear. then, you will lower your final drive ratio and be able to cruise in 4th at 80 mph at 4K rpm

dont complain to me if you can't spin your wheels any more, though....
