not that i know of, some of them need to be a good grade of whatever because they see exhaust heat (acv and the egr)

if you're welding aluminum manifolds you should be able to just skip the block off plate altogether and fill the holes with your welding filler metal, or just grab some aluminum stock to fill in large gaps and weld it into place.

Most people don't have the ability to weld aluminum though, especially large cast aluminum parts like the intake manifolds... a good 300A TIG (preferable) or MIG is quite expensive and demands alot of power most home garages won't have. (220V @ 60-100A ?)

I bought a small 100A MIG welder the other day just to experiment, ran off 115V, real junk... all it was able to do was make buggers on any aluminum piece I tried that wasnt a 1/16" thick window frame, thats with 100% argon. The buggers would fall off with the lightest tap of a screwdriver. Zero penetration, aluminum dissipates heat too fast, you need a high power welder to get any penetration, TIG preferably if you don't want to make a mess.

yup, having a welding shop do it for you is usually cheaper, but if you plan on doing alot of welds and don't know exactly what you want done and need to experiment / do welds throughout the day often... investing $1000 in welding equipment might be a good idea. You might find yourself visiting the welding guy too often once you start thinking with the fabrication head

if you weld the holes up, take off the manifolds and weld up the other side, its a smaller hole
